Are you always speedwalking in heels?
I’ve always struggled with the whole “enjoy the journey” concept. I’ve always been about getting to my destination as quickly as possible.
Seriously - in college, I would speed walk (in heels, nonetheless) to get to my next class as quickly as possible. No lounging on the grass with a book or stopping off for a latte - it was all about getting where I needed to go, as quickly as humanly possible.
I was the same way as a new entrepreneur, too. I wanted to hit my goals NOW! Not wait to build up my audience and go through iterations of my offers to perfect them. I wanted to build a huge list and launch a perfect course that everyone raved about…overnight.
And I would be really hard on myself when, inevitably, it didn’t happen.
But then I became a mother.
Having my son taught me how to slow down and appreciate the moments, in more than one way.
With a toddler, I don’t go anywhere fast. There’s always one more thing to grab before getting in the car. Potty breaks at rather inconvenient times. And lovely moments where, instead of pushing to GO, GO, GO!, I just sit and cuddle with my baby.
I’ve discovered that the destination is actually pretty pointless without the journey, because it is the journey that prepares us to be ready for the destination.
If you’re frustrated right now because you want your business to be bigger than it is, or you want more leads than you have, or to make more money than you do….pause.
Take a breath.
And realize that you are exactly where you are supposed to be right now.
You WILL get to your destination.
What lessons are you learning along the way that will make it all the more enjoyable when you get there?
